Sacramento – The California Latino Legislative Caucus today elected Assemblymember Ricardo Lara as its new chairman.
"I am humbled and honored to be chosen by my colleagues to lead one of the most important caucuses in the state. We share a commitment to be a voice for our community and work on policies that positively affect the quality of life of all Californians. I am ready to roll up my sleeves and work with the members, legislative leadership and the Governor to ensure that our communities continue to be recognized and respected as a pivotal constituency in our state," said Assemblymember Lara.
Vice Chairman Ron Calderon (D-Montebello) said Chairman Lara instinctively understands the complexity of our community and Caucus.
"I am confident Ricardo will bring a renewed sense of urgency and redirection to the caucus and support in the expansion of its membership," said Senator Calderon. "I am proud to call Chairman Lara a friend and look forward to supporting his efforts in moving our caucus agenda forward."
Assemblymember Lara was elected by a supermajority of the 23-member caucus upon the resignation of Assemblymember Tony Mendoza, who had served as chair since 2010.
