SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) recognized Centro C.H.A. as Senate District 33 Nonprofit of the Year for their work to promote health and combat violence in the Long Beach community.
“I am proud to recognize Centro C.H.A. as Senate District 33 Nonprofit of the Year for working to close the achievement gap for Latino and Latina students and to support families in Long Beach,” said Senator Ricardo Lara. “Nonprofits play an important role alongside government to level the playing field for all.”
Centro C.H.A. works in a majority-Latino area of Long Beach to provide job training, youth mentoring, educational services and other important services for underrepresented, low-income Hispanic children, youth and families.
California’s 72,000 nonprofits generate $260 billion in total economic activity every year, producing more jobs than the real estate, finance or construction industries.
Senator Lara recognized Centro C.H.A. as part of California Nonprofits Day on June 28, 2017.
