Senator Lara's Statement on Progressive and Prudent Actions by Appropriations Committee

May 25, 2018

SACRAMENTO, CA – Senate Appropriations Chair Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) released the following statement after the committee held its suspense file hearing today in the Capitol. A summary of actions taken today will be posted at the Senate Appropriations Committee website:

“California’s fiscal outlook is the strongest it has been in a generation. As always, this committee has made our deliberations in conjunction with the budget process.

“The bills that we discussed today deliver great benefits for California. They will…

“Address the California wildfires and disasters fueled by climate change…

“Move us forward on women’s equality and ending violence against women…

“Build trust between police and the communities they serve…

“And protect our world’s wildlife and the people who make their living from our marine economy.

“These are progressive policies that move California forward while protecting future generations.

“I want to recognize the hard work over the past months of my fellow Senators and their staffs, my staff on the Appropriations Committee, our Vice Chair, Senator Bates, and her fiscal staff, and especially our President Pro Tem Toni G. Atkins for your partnership in protecting the financial health of our state.”
