SACRAMENTO, CA – The California State Senate made history today by approving Senate Bill 4 authored by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) to expand coverage to California’s undocumented population. Known as the Health for All Act, the measure provides a realistic and cost-sensitive approach to covering one of the state’s most vulnerable populations. By a vote of 28 - 11, the advancement of this bill marks the first time any legislative body in the United States approves a measure to expand access to health care for their respective undocumented population.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, the California Senate approved Senate Bill 524 by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) which defines private residential facilities for youth and requires them to obtain a license from the Department of Social Services (DSS) to protect youth health and safety. The measure passed with bipartisan support by a vote of 31 to 1.

SACRAMENTO, CA – A bill to expand access to healthcare for California’s undocumented population cleared a key vote in the California Senate Appropriations Committee today by a vote of 5 to 2. Senate Bill 4 by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) is the first proposal of its kind introduced in the country.

SACRAMENTO, CA —The California Senate today approved unanimously a policy by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) to allow children to attend school where their live-in working parents reside. SB 200 would update California’s school residency laws to ensure that live-in workers, such as nannies, caregivers, maids, and gardeners, whose children live at their place of employment are able to attend school in the district in which they work if they reside there for at least three days of the week.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, SB10 by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) to establish the California Office of New Americans cleared the Senate Committee on Governmental Organization by a vote of 7 to 0. SB 10 would clearly define a statewide lead to take charge and assess, coordinate, streamline and develop a comprehensive statewide strategy for California’s immigrant integration efforts both in the short and long term.

SACRAMENTO, CA – The Senate Business, Professions & Economic Development Committee approve a bill authored by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) to require prescribers to check the California’s Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System (CURES) - a state database before prescribing the most addictive medications – to help prevent prescription drug addiction and thousands of overdose deaths. The Committee voted 7 to 1 to advance SB482.

SACRAMENTO – Today, a bill authored by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) to increase the accessibility of record sealing for adjudicated youth by removing the fee associated with expungement cleared the Senate Public Safety Committee by a vote of 5 to 2.

SACRAMENTO, CA —  Senator Ricardo Lara’s (D-Bell Gardens) resolution to place a statue of American pioneer Sally Ride in the Statuary Hall located in the United States Capitol cleared a vote of the California Senate today by a vote of 22-10. Senate Joint Resolution 4 would make Sally Ride the first woman to represent California and the first member of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community to be placed in the Statuary Hall.
