SACRAMENTO, CA — Today, the California Ed.G.E. (Education for a Global Economy) Initiative authored by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Huntington Park/Long Beach) was green lighted by Governor Jerry Brown. The bill, SB 1174, places an initiative before voters on the November 2016 ballot and asks them to amend portions of Proposition 227 which limits public school instruction to English-only.

SACRAMENTO, CA — Senator Ricardo Lara’s bill to allow all applicants for a professional license in California to provide either a Social Security Number (SSN) or an individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN) was signed by Governor Jerry Brown Sunday evening. SB 1159 is the first bill of its kind in the nation and passed out of the State Senate in August by a bipartisan vote of 30-4.

SACRAMENTO, CA — Legislation to accelerate the deployment of thousands of zero- and near-zero emissions trucks, buses and other clean freight technologies was signed by Governor Jerry Brown today.  Senators Ricardo Lara (D-Huntington Park/Long Beach) and Fran Pavley (D-Agoura Hills) are joint authors of SB 1204, which was signed as Governor Brown announced his participation in the United Nations Climate Summit in New York this week.

SACRAMENTO, CA — Today Governor Jerry Brown announced that he signed into law SB 1273, authored by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Huntington Park/Long Beach), which would reform and enhance California’s Low Cost Auto Insurance Program by updating eligibility requirements and removing its sunset provision to help low-income Californians access affordable auto insurance options.

SACRAMENTO, CA — Two education bills, SB 1174 and SB 1210, authored by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Huntington Park/Long Beach) were concurred by the State Senate today and now advance to Governor Jerry Brown for consideration.

SACRAMENTO, CA –Today, SB 1350 known as the Potty Parity for Parents act authored by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Huntington Park/Long Beach) passed out of the Assembly by a bipartisan vote of 56-8 and now heads to the Governor for consideration. The bill would require a baby changing station in the men’s restroom if one is being installed in the women’s restroom, or changing station in a family restroom available to both men and women.

SACRAMENTO — Today, SB712 by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Huntington Park/Long Beach) requiring hazardous waste  facilities operating under an interim permit from the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) to achieve compliance with federal and state hazardous waste laws and receive a final permit by December 31, 2015, advanced to Governor Jerry Brown’s desk. The bill was concurred by the State Senate by a vote of 34-0.
