SACRAMENTO –Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Long Beach) released the statement below after the Assembly Appropriations held its suspense hearing: 

“With less than two weeks away from our deadline to send these bills to Governor Brown, we have much work left to do,” stated Senator Lara. “I look forward to advancing these local and statewide policies that will improve the State’s education system, our transportation and goods movement, and will ensure our children have a healthy environment.”

SACRAMENTO –As Chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee in the Assembly in 2012, Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Long Beach) requested an audit of the school safety and nondiscrimination laws in the state. Today, the State Auditor released its findings.

Lara’s Bill to Streamline Prescription Claims Processing, Signed into Law

SACRAMENTO- Senator Ricardo Lara’s (D-Long Beach) bill that promotes modern and efficient processing of workers’ compensation pharmacy claims was signed by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today. SB 146 ensures injured workers have access to vital medications by removing an unnecessary requirement for Workers’ Compensation pharmacy claims to include a copy of a prescription.

SACRAMENTO-The Youth Equality Act (SB 323), designed to bring youth group tax exemptions in line with California’s existing non-discrimination laws, has passed both the Assembly Tax and Revenue and Judiciary Committees this week, advancing this historic bill to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

SACRAMENTO- Yesterday, over fifty community members rode on a bus for more than seven hours in order to participate in a committee hearing in which Senator Ricardo Lara’s (D-Long Beach) bill SB 811, was being heard. The bill ensures that communities along the I-710 freeway have a meaningful mechanism to provide input about mitigation and local benefits appropriate freight impacts, advance sustainability and protect public health.

SACRAMENTO, CA. – Senator Ricardo Lara, Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, commended Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today for the signing of AB 97 and SB 91, the budget trailer bills that revolutionize the distribution of state funding for California schools.  Under the new Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) school districts will not only receive more funding on a per pupil basis, but schools with high concentrations of disadvantaged English language learning students will receive substantial grants to meet their needs.
