AB 2274 ensures frivolous lawsuits made by vexatious litigants do not go unchecked

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. – In a move that will save courtrooms and small businesses across the state time and money, today, Governor Jerry Brown singed in to law AB 2274, by Assembly Member Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens).  AB 2274 closes a loophole in current law that allows for abusive lawsuits and filings by vexatious litigants – litigants who are not represented by counsel and repeatedly bring groundless lawsuits and unnecessarily delay court proceedings.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- In a historic call to action, yesterday the California State Legislature approved Assembly Joint Resolution 43, the LGBTQ Bill of Rights, by Assembly Member Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens). The measure puts California on record declaring "sexual orientation and gender identity" should be included alongside "race, color, sex, national origin, disability, age and religion" in all federal anti-discrimination laws.

Legislators request audit of implementation of anti-bullying and harassment laws in California Schools

SACRAMENTO – Today, the Joint Legislative Audit Committee (JLAC) approved an audit request with a 9 to 4 vote, to examine the implementation of and compliance with nondiscrimination laws in California public schools.  The audit was jointly requested by Assembly Members Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) and Betsy Butler (D-Los Angeles) and prompted by accounts of continued harassment and bullying in schools.

SACRAMENTO – As the festivities surrounding the 236th anniversary of the signing of our country's Declaration of Independence begin, today California State Assembly Member Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) introduced Assembly Joint Resolution 43 - LGBTQ Bill of Rights - a resolution that calls on President Obama and Congress to include sexual orientation and gender identity in landmark Federal anti-discrimination laws.
