Sacramento —Assembly Member Ricardo Lara (D- Bell Gardens) today honored the Latino Equality Alliance (LEA) on the Assembly Floor during the California Legislative Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Caucus’ Pride Ceremony.

Accepting on behalf of the Latino Equality Alliance, were Ari Gutierrez and Eddie Martinez – Co-Chairs of the organization.  LEA serves Southeast Los Angeles and focuses on issues important to the Latino LGBT population, including marriage equality, LGBT inclusive immigration reform and family acceptance.

AB 925 will require charter schools to describe employee personnel policies in charter school petitions

SACRAMENTO – In an effort to provide charter school employees with more information about school personnel policies such as sick leave, bereavement leave, and maternity leave, the Senate Education Committee passed AB 925 by Assembly Member Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens). Specifically, the bill requires charter schools to describe their personnel policies and procedures when petitioning to become a charter school.

Celebrations included a Cinco de Mayo Week Floor Resolution and the Presentation of the Latino Spirit Awards

SACRAMENTO – The California State Legislature joined the Latino Legislative Caucus today in commemorating Cinco de Mayo Week by presenting the Latino Spirit Awards and passing the Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 146 (ACR 146) introduced by Assembly Member Ricardo Lara, (D-Bell Gardens). The measure proclaims May 1-7, 2012 as Cinco de Mayo Week and urges Californians to join in celebrating Cinco de Mayo.
