Bills Signed, Hispanic Heritage Month, Middle Class Tax Refund

Dear Neighbor,

My District is home to vibrant Hispanic and Latin American communities, and it is important that we take time to recognize and celebrate their many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories! Take some time to read about our Hispanic Heritage Month honorees!

And wow! I could not be prouder of all the hard work we accomplished this legislative session, with the final bills in my legislative package signed into law by the Governor, we have so much great change in action, from creating a more equitable food economy to protecting our neighborhoods from oil drilling pollution, addressing disparities in access to mental health services and so much more.

In the District, I attended a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, toured a local facility to learn about recyclables and landfill avoidance and hosted a community cleanup. My team also participated in local events to promote the arts and opportunities for recreational activities outdoors.

An upcoming Help for Truckers event will provide truckers the opportunity to sign up for official programs and certifications for work at the ports, scholarships are available for students in the transportation industry, and starting this month most California residents will start receiving cash refunds to help respond to the higher costs caused by inflation.

    • Addressing disparities in access to mental health services by requiring Medi-Cal Managed Care Plans to implement culturally and linguistically relevant outreach to underserved communities SB 1019

In the District

  • I had great time joining celebrations across the district. I joined the Cultural Center Advisory Committee and Centro CHA Inc. in Long beach for their opening Inaugural 2022 Latino Cultural Center & El Mercado Celebration.
  • We also celebrated the signing of SB 972 with local street vendors and organizations in Los Angeles and SB 1137 on a virtual live-event with activist and actress Jane Fonda!
  • Aside from celebrations, Team Gonzalez also spent time out on the field to take climate action. First, we toured the Athens Services Material Recovery Facility to learn about technology designed to maximize recyclables recovery and landfill avoidance, then we hosted a freeway off-ramp cleanup in South Gate. My team also participated in the Los Cerritos Community Painting Day and an event recognizing outgoing board members of the Arts Council for Long Beach. We had fun at Beach Streets encouraging others to exercise outdoors and were happy to support a backpack giveaway with YMCA of Greater Long Beach.
