State Senator Ricardo Lara (D-33rd district) surprised Lynwood City Councilwoman Maria Santillan-Beas during the festivities of National Night Out 2013 Against Crime after presenting her with a Certificate of Recognition for her Outstanding Contributions to Lynwood’s Social Services Organizations.

“Your donations have provided much needed services for seniors, young adults and children throughout the City of Lynwood,” said the Certificate of Recognition. “On behalf of the 33rd Senate District, I commend you for your leadership.”

Santillan-Beas, who is seeking re-election this November, reportedly did not know why the Senator was calling her up to the stage during last week’s the celebration.

“I was shocked, plus I’m sure everyone else was wondering why I was being called up by the Senator, too”, said Santillan-Beas in statement. “I’m honored to receive the recognition from his office.”
