SACRAMENTO, CA —Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) released the following statement regarding the Senate Appropriations Analysis on Senate Bill 4 after the measure was advanced to the Suspense File:
“The cost estimates for Senate Bill 4 reflect our ongoing efforts to develop a realistic, cost-effective solution in our pursuit of expanding health care for all Californians, regardless of immigration status. With the support of legislative leadership, advocates and immigrant communities, we’ve made significant progress over the past year in addressing this critical human rights issue. I look forward to building on that progress and making health for all a reality.”
The projected annual increase in Medi-Cal spending outlined in the analysis is $175 - $455 million per year under the President’s Executive Action and $280 - $740 million without the President’s Action (see attached). The bill is expected to be considered fully at the Appropriations Committee meeting at the end of May.
