City Council members hold extraordinary hearing to comply with new statewide legalization law, Senate Bill 946
LOS ANGELES, CA – Senator Ricardo Lara released this statement after Los Angeles City Council members held a special meeting about conforming with Senate Bill 946, legalizing sidewalk vending. SB 946 goes into effect in January 2019 and allows cities to adopt local rules if they want to regulate sidewalk vending.
“Today City Council members witnessed an outpouring of sidewalk vendors energized by Governor Brown’s signing of SB 946 who are hungry for action after years of debate and study. Legal sidewalk vending is finally within reach for thousands of Angelenos who want nothing more than to join the formal economy. I applaud the City Council members for today’s extraordinary hearing, which shows their urgency to authorize legal vending before Senate Bill 946 goes into effect in January.”
