Senator Lena Gonzalez Responds to SCOTUS Abortion Rights Decision

June 24, 2022

Sacramento, Calif. – On June 24, 2022 Senator Lena A. Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) issued the following statement following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organizations, which overrules federal constitutional protections regarding the right to abortion:

“The SCOTUS decision today is beyond devastating for women and pregnant people in our country. It is deeply saddening and infuriating to see our nation moving backwards in the year 2022, 50 years after settled law, now stripping away the fundamental rights of reproductive freedom for so many. In California, abortion care is still legal and as State Senator, I will fight every day to ensure we remain a Reproductive Freedom State for every woman and pregnant person—especially people of color who may experience deeper challenges to care.”
