Coalition of Health, Labor and Immigrant Advocates Support Bill to Expand Health Access to California’s Remaining Uninsured

SACRAMENTO —Joined by a broad and diverse statewide coalition of health, immigrant and community advocates, Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Huntington Park/Long Beach) today introduced Senate Bill 1005, the Health For All Act, which will expand access to health care coverage for all Californians, irrespective of immigration status.

Sacramento – Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Huntington Park/Long Beach) will hold a press conference in Los Angeles on February 14, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. to unveil the Health For All Act -  legislation to expand access to health care coverage for all Californians, regardless of immigration status.

Joining Senator Lara, will be a coalition of health, immigration, labor and community advocates who agree that immigration status should not impede an individuals’ ability to access or purchase health coverage.

SACRAMENTO – The Senate Committee on Environmental Quality today approved Senate Bill 712 by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Huntington Park/Long Beach).  The bill requires the Exide Technologies battery recycling facility in Vernon, CA to either complete the DTSC permitting process by 2015, or have their interim permit revoked.   The Exide facility has been operating under interim status without a final permit from the department since the early 1980s.

SACRAMENTO – In response to ongoing community concerns about hazardous emissions from the Exide Technologies battery recycling facility in Vernon, Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Long Beach) introduced legislation this week to require hazardous waste facilities to obtain full permits in order to continue operations.

SACRAMENTO –Following on the heels of Covered California’s first day of open enrollment, SB 800, authored by Sen. Ricardo Lara (D-Long Beach), was signed into law by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today.
 
“SB 800 furthers the critical mission of the Affordable Care Act by allowing Covered California to reach out to thousands of families who may be eligible for subsidized healthcare,” stated Senator Lara. “Absent this legislation, these co-workers and neighbors may not be aware of the resources and coverage available to them and their children.”
