Welcome! I’m Senator Lena Gonzalez and I represent the 33rd District. The 33rd District represents nearly 1 million residents of Los Angeles County, including Long Beach, and the Southeast Los Angeles cities of Bell, Bell Gardens, Cudahy, Huntington Park, Lakewood, Lynwood, Maywood, Paramount, Signal Hill, South Gate, and part of Los Angeles.

I’m honored to represent the working people of the 33rd District who drive California’s economy, from the Port of Long Beach to the transportation corridor that links California to the rest of the country. Sacramento, Calif. – On February, 17 2022 Senator Lena A. Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) introduced SB 1173 that would prohibit the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) and the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) from investing in fossil fuel companies, and require that they divest any current investments by 2027. Moving away from these types of investments will help advance California’s climate change goals by divesting from carbon emitting companies. SB 1173 seizes the momentum of the worldwide divestment movement and continues the bold and progressive actions that California must take to address climate change.

State Senator Lena Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) has introduced SB 972, which would reform the state food code to make it easier for sidewalk vendors to obtain permits to sell food.
 
Organizer Carla De Paz works with Community Power Collective, which has long advocated for this bill. She says it addresses certain requirements for a food vending permit, including having to to use carts with a three-compartment sink.
