Dear Neighbor,
On Tuesday, January 14, 2020, a Delta Airlines airplane making an emergency return to Los Angeles International Airport dumped fuel onto several schools, parks, and neighboring communities in the Southeast, including Cudahy and South Gate. Approximately 67 children and adults were treated for health-related ailments.
As Senator for the 33rd District, representing the communities affected by this incident, I am outraged and pained that this happened in communities that are already environmentally impacted. I am determined to bring accountability and precautionary measures in collaboration with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and my colleagues in federal, state, and local government, to stop this from ever happening again. My office is working closely with the FAA and is in communication with Delta Airlines to ensure that a full investigation is done, to better understand why Delta Flight 89 dumped fuel over our community.
It is very important that our community receive all the information and resources they need. For those impacted by the recent jet fuel incident, there will be free healthcare services available over the next three days:

- The City of South Gate is hosting an informational meeting about the incident on Saturday, January 25, from 3-5 p.m. at the South Gate Municipal Auditorium (4900 Southern Avenue, South Gate, CA 90280). Our office will be tabling with additional resources.
