Welcome! I’m Senator Lena Gonzalez and I represent the 33rd District. The 33rd District represents nearly 1 million residents of Los Angeles County, including Long Beach, and the Southeast Los Angeles cities of Bell, Bell Gardens, Cudahy, Huntington Park, Lakewood, Lynwood, Maywood, Paramount, Signal Hill, South Gate, and part of Los Angeles.

I’m honored to represent the working people of the 33rd District who drive California’s economy, from the Port of Long Beach to the transportation corridor that links California to the rest of the country. A partir de este primero de enero del 2024, los trabajadores en California tendrán derecho a más días pagos por enfermedad en California.

Actualmente la ley estatal exige solamente tres días, y en el nuevo año se agregarán dos más.

California workers will be guaranteed five paid sick days a year starting Jan. 1, up from the three days that employers are currently required to provide, thanks to Senate Bill 616

The bill, authored by Long Beach Democratic Sen. Lena Gonzalez, also extends protections against retaliation to workers who are in a union, but excludes provisions that would have granted railroad employees access to unpaid sick leave.

 Sick days are also going to increase for workers from the three minimum paid sick days to five says the bill’s author, State Sen. Lena Gonzalez (D-Long Beach).

“A huge victory again for all workers. It’s a really wonderful opportunity to get two extra days to recover, to rest, for mental health, whatever they need,” Lena Gonzalez said.

Long Beach, Calif. – On December 8, 2023, Senator Lena Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) presented $3.5 million in funds to support the preservation of historical sites Rancho Los Alamitos and Rancho Los Cerritos in the City of Long Beach. Senator Gonzalez advocated for the funds to be allocated as part of the 2023 fiscal year state budget. The allocation of funds will serve to address several key aspects, notably public safety concerns, accessibility improvement, and restoration of historic ranch buildings and gardens. The Ranchos are situated on lands historically inhabited by the Gabrielino-Tongva indigenous community. As historically significant regional treasures, the Ranchos help promote cultural and environmental awareness through accessible programming for students, families and all visitors.

“I am proud to lend my support for the preservation of Long Beach’s cherished landmarks, Rancho Los Cerritos and Rancho Los Alamitos,” said Senator Lena Gonzalez (D-Long Beach). “This funding will provide our communities with better access to beautiful outdoor spaces and historical buildings, and educational resources, where visitors can learn firsthand about our state's history and the importance of environmental stewardship.”
