Become a Senate District 33 Youth Environmental Champion

The Youth Environmental Champions Program is a comprehensive program aimed at educating and empowering youth within the 33rd Senate District about the environmental issues affecting our communities. Through this program, young individuals will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and resources to become active participants in tackling climate change and building sustainable communities.
 
How will I benefit from this program?
As a Youth Environmental Champion, you will participate in two full days of interactive and educational programming. Activities will include workshops, field trips, panel presentations, and discussions to help you become a strong environmental advocate for a clean planet and sustainable future! Topics will include how to save our oceans, ending oil and gas pollution, the history behind pollution-burdened communities, lowering emissions from transportation, and much more!
 
What is the program schedule?
The program will commence in the fall of 2023. If selected, programming will take place on two consecutive Saturdays for a duration of six hours. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided.

What will be my responsibilities?
  • Secure parent or guardian’s permission
  • Attend and participate in the two full days of programming
  • Transportation will be provided during programming activities, however, your parents/guardians must arrange travel for you to the event start and pick-up locations at the beginning and end of each day of programming
  • Be timely, we will be starting and ending all activities on schedule
  • Be ready to actively participate, learn and engage in group activities
  • Be supportive and respectful of others
What is the cost?
The program is free for youth! Our program has been sponsored by organizations who support educational growth and leadership opportunities for our youth.
 
Am I eligible?
The program is designed for current high school students who live in Senate District 33 or go to public or private schools in the District (which includes Bell, Bell Gardens, Cudahy, Huntington Park, Lakewood, Long Beach, Lynwood, Maywood, Paramount, Signal Hill, South Gate, and Vernon, communities of Florence-Firestone and Walnut Park). You can also find out if you live or go to school within Senate District 33 by visiting Find Your California Representative website and entering your or your school’s address. We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in environmental advocacy and community leadership. Applicants with these areas of interest will find the Youth Environmental Champions Program a rewarding and fulfilling experience.
