Welcome! I’m Senator Lena Gonzalez and I represent the 33rd District. The 33rd District represents nearly 1 million residents of Los Angeles County, including Long Beach, and the Southeast Los Angeles cities of Bell, Bell Gardens, Cudahy, Huntington Park, Lakewood, Lynwood, Maywood, Paramount, Signal Hill, South Gate, and part of Los Angeles.

I’m honored to represent the working people of the 33rd District who drive California’s economy, from the Port of Long Beach to the transportation corridor that links California to the rest of the country. 33rd District Senator and former Long Beach Councilmember, Lena Gonzalez’s “Broadband For All” bill passed out of the Senate floor on Friday, June 26.

The senator’s first bill, SB 1130, passed on a 30-9 vote.

The bill aims to bridge the digital divide by ensuring equal access to high speed, reliable and “open-access digital infrastructure” for rural and urban communities, according to Senator Gonzalez.

Long Beach, Calif.- It is incredibly disturbing to see threats of violence directed towards activist and journalist Shaun King which were posted in a California law enforcement private Facebook group. These violent posts were conducted with personal accounts of identified retired Long Beach law enforcement officers. These actions by former law enforcement professionals are not only unacceptable and extremely disappointing, but are completely against the values of the residents I represent and these actions must face immediate consequence.

Sacramento, Calif.- Today, the California State Senate approved SB 1255 by Senator Lena Gonzalez (D- Long Beach) and the Senate Committee on Insurance. Section one of SB 1255, The Equal Insurance HIV Act, by Senator Lena Gonzalez and co-sponsored by Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara and Equality California, ends the unjust practice of insurance companies discriminating against HIV-positive individuals, keeps up to date with medical advancements and ensures coverage for affected families during these unprecedented times.
