Community Alert – Shoemaker Bridge Ramp Demolition Meeting

Dear Neighbors,

As construction on the Port of Long Beach’s Pier B project continues, I want to make sure you are aware of upcoming weekend closures that may impact travel in and around Long Beach.

Port of Long Beach transforming cargo movement

Starting September 2026, the Port of Long Beach will demolish the Shoemaker Bridge 9th and 10th Street ramps. The construction will result in temporary closures from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday on the following weekends:

  • Sept. 11-14: Northbound 710, Ocean Boulevard to Anaheim Street
  • Sept. 18-21: Shoemaker Bridge
  • Sept. 25-28: Southbound 710, Anaheim Street to Pico Avenue

Outside of the Sept. 18–21 closure, motorists can continue to access the Shoemaker Bridge from West Seventh Street, West Third Street, West Ocean Boulevard, and West Shoreline Drive on the east side of the Los Angeles River.

The Port hosted two outreach meetings regarding the temporary closures earlier this year and a final public meeting will be held this week. Please see below for details:
