Standing with Our Communities, Back in Session, LA28
Dear Neighbor,
As we begin 2026, thank you for your continued engagement and partnership in strengthening our communities. This has been a difficult time as we mourn lives lost and families harmed by ongoing federal actions, including the tragic shooting of Renee Nicole Good. I stand in solidarity with all our communities during this time.
This month marks the start of a new legislative session and the release of the Governor’s proposed 2026–27 budget. I’m also sharing updates on the LA28 Games, including a short survey to hear your ideas on how LA28 can best benefit our community. I’m honored to represent you in the State Senate and look forward to working together in the year ahead.
Statement on ICE’s Fatal Shooting of Renee Nicole Good
We stand in solidarity with every family harmed by ICE operations that continue to terrorize communities across our nation. What happened to Renee was not an isolated tragedy — it is part of a disturbing pattern that puts lives at risk, tears families apart and that AFFECTS US ALL. The Legislature Is Back in Session
The Legislature reconvened on January 5, and we are back in Sacramento to consider new bills, begin budget negotiations, and address the most pressing issues facing our state. In the months ahead, committee hearings and policy debates will shape legislation impacting communities across California.
To stay informed, visit the Senate website for committee schedules, ways to watch Senate session, and more. My office is working hard to represent our district’s interests, and we welcome your input throughout the legislative year. Please don’t hesitate to contact us to share your views on legislative or budget issues.

Governor Newsom’s Proposed 2026–27 Budget
On January 9, Governor Newsom released his preliminary state budget proposal, which will serve as the starting point for legislative budget hearings and public input throughout the spring.
I look forward to working with the Governor and my legislative colleagues to advance a responsible budget that prioritizes public safety, education, workforce development, affordability, our environment, healthcare, and other critical services while investing in California’s future. Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games (LA28)
We are just two years away from the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and Long Beach will play an exciting role as a key host city. This global event will bring visitors, athletes, and cultural celebrations to Senate District 33 and the broader Los Angeles region, along with opportunities for community engagement and local economic activity.
I’m excited to share about ways you can get involved, including volunteer and business opportunities, ticket information (note: first LA28 ticket draw registration opening January 14), and updates on my legislative work related to LA28. Learn more on my LA28 informational webpage.
