Uplifting Women During Women’s History Month
This Women’s History Month, and every day, we are reminded of the importance of uplifting and standing with women who strengthen our communities. In this time of reflection and solidarity, I want to express my gratitude to all the women who lead with courage and continue to pave the way for others. Juntas, podemos hacer la diferencia—together, we can make a difference.
Statement In Solidarity with Dolores Huerta & All Survivors
As Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, I recently issued a statement in solidarity with Dolores Huerta, Ana Murguia and Debra Rojas following reports of Cesar Chavez’s abhorrent behavior. This is a time to listen, reflect, and make space for those impacted. You can read my full statement and find resources for sexual assault survivors on the Latino Caucus website.
Community Immigration Teach-In

Sen. Lena Gonzalez speaking at a Community Immigration Teach-In
This month I joined community members, advocates, and local leaders for an Immigration Teach-In focused on recent immigration raids, immigrant rights, and how families can stay informed as policies change quickly. We shared key information on legal protections, available resources, and ways to stay connected to trusted support. I remain committed to making sure immigrant communities have the knowledge and support they need.

My New Bill to Protect CalFresh Benefits from Future Federal Shutdowns
This week, I formally introduced SB 1077, which will prepare California for future federal shutdowns impacting CalFresh benefits. Last fall, the federal shutdown delayed benefits for 5.5 million Californians who rely on this critical program, causing confusion and worry as people waited days for their benefits. SB 1077 will require the California Department of Social Services to develop a plan to communicate information, resources, and updates quickly to CalFresh recipients, county human services agencies, public officials, and other stakeholders during a federal shutdown. It will also require the state to develop the capacity to issue state-funded benefits, in case a future federal shutdown pauses the disbursement of CalFresh benefits. Read more on my website.
Important Updates to CalFresh Eligibility
Recent federal policy changes will affect some CalFresh eligibility rules and benefit calculations. This means some households may see changes to their benefits during their renewal process. Learn more about the changes and how to keep your benefits by visiting LA County’s Department of Public Social Services’ webpage.
$90 Million Investment in Reproductive Healthcare
In a major victory for reproductive freedom, Governor Newsom recently signed SB 106, providing $90 million in emergency state funding for Planned Parenthood and other reproductive health clinics. This critical investment was fast-tracked to backfill federal cuts and ensure that essential services like cancer screenings and family planning remain accessible to all Californians.
District Organizations Awarded CA Violence Intervention and Prevention Grants
Governor Newsom recently announced a $107 million investment in violence prevention grants to 42 communities across California, including organizations serving our district! The grants will support community-driven strategies to prevent gun violence, strengthen neighborhoods, and expand trauma-informed services, as well as proven local efforts to interrupt cycles of harm and create opportunities for youth and families. I look forward to the continued positive impact of these programs.
