Team Gonzalez on the Field

Check out recent events our team has attended, supported, and hosted.

  • Our office joined the South Gate Chamber of Commerce for their Men’s Health Barbecue and Resource Fair. At the event, we provided information on state resources, health resources, and personal protective equipment as well as activities for kids. Thank you to the South Gate Chamber for helping bring this event together and destigmatizing men’s health awareness while providing health services to the community.
  • We participated in Florence Firestone's Resource Fair and food and diaper distribution. We had color and activity book giveaways as well as state resource flyers and booklets for the community. Thank you to Florence-Firestone Community Organization, Never Give Up, and Full Gospel Baptist Church, as well as all the volunteers who helped organize this event!
  • Cudahy passed a historic Rent Stabilization ordinance and beginning July 7th, rent increases will be capped at the Consumer Price Index or 3%, whichever is lower.
  • Team Gonzalez joined a ribbon-cutting ceremony at St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood. They are opening a new Thrombectomy-capable Stroke Center, which is one of 3 Joint Commission-recognized centers in LA County.
  • We recently celebrated the relaunch of the Queen Mary, a beloved local attraction welcoming thousands of visitors to explore its storied halls and learn of the ship’s history through tours and onboard exhibits.
  • Team Gonzalez joined the Strong-Settles family and friends at the event in honor of Ron Settles Day of Remembrance in Signal Hill. Ron Settles was a Cal State Long Beach football star who died in police custody over forty years ago, today the community honors his memory and we continue to advocate for justice and accountability in policing.

Celebrating SD33 Small Businesses, Nonprofits, and Community Heroes

Join Team Gonzalez in congratulating Senate District 33 entrepreneurs, community groups, and local heroes on their many accomplishments!

  • We visited Ellen Ochoa Learning Center’s 8th grade Culmination and presented a Resolution to Mr. Cockrill who is retiring after 39 years as a Physical Education teacher. When he addressed his last class he said “I know I made you all do burpees and push-ups and you’re probably happy you won’t have to anymore. But when you face challenges in your life, I hope you hear my voice in the back of your head because you can do it!”
  • The LA Care Blue Shield of California’s held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for a new Community Center in North Long Beach that will offer a broad array of free, culturally appropriate health education services and programs focusing on self-management tools, disease prevention tips and wellness and healthy living for the community. We were treated to a performance by the Lindbergh STEM Academy band, a traditional Cambodian Blessing and a Acjachemen tribal blessing.

Meetings in the Community

Learn about meetings, important issues, and policy discussions happening in Senate District 33.

  • Thank you to all who joined us for our Downtown Long Beach Legislative Brunch! During the event, we provided legislative updates and talked about a variety of topics including reproductive justice, environmental justice, addressing homelessness and more! It was a full room and I had a great time seeing everyone and listening to your ideas and concerns. Stay tuned for more upcoming events like this throughout the District!
  • Our office toured Prepa Tec Middle School and Academia Moderna Elementary school in Walnut Park. It was also career day at the elementary school, and we had the opportunity to share about the Legislature, my work in Sacramento and our Field Representative Oscar Cisco shared about his work in the community. We met the student council as well and it was very exciting to talk with such bright students and connect with the young leaders of tomorrow!
  • We attended Metro’s community open house on the West Santa Ana Branch Transit Corridor (WSAB) project, a new light rail transit (LRT) line that will connect southeast LA County to downtown Los Angeles. Metro presented the full scope of the project, changes that were made after community input from the draft Draft Environmental Impact Report, and answered questions from community in attendance.
  • Team Gonzalez joined Senator Alex Padilla, Assemblymember Miguel Santiago, Rep. Jimmy Gomez, Congressman Robert Garcia, and community members to advocate for the EPA to designate the Exide area as a superfund site that will bring federal funds to complete the cleanup needed in impacted communities. These are much-needed resources and the completion of the cleanup for these families is long overdue. Many families who live in the area bear the brunt of the pollution caused by Exide’s operations that for decades dumped lead and other contaminants into the homes and neighborhoods of low-income, working-class families. They deserve better.
