Scholarship Winners, Health Podcast, Caltrans Service Request Tool

Dear Neighbor,

The 2024-25 legislative session ends on August 31, marking the final day for both the Senate and Assembly to pass bills. Before that, we have one more important deadline: suspense week. During this week, the Appropriations Committees review the fiscal impacts of any proposed state legislation costing $50,000 or more to the General Fund, or $150,000 or more to a special fund. By August 16, the last day for these committees to meet, we'll know which bills have been approved to move forward to a final floor vote.

As summer continues, many of our students across California are enjoying their break before starting a new chapter. Whether they’re getting ready for the next school grade, taking summer classes, or beginning higher education or a trade, I send my best wishes and congratulations to all. Keep working toward your dreams! And a special shoutout goes to the 2024 winners of the California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation (CLLCF) scholarship.

Speaking of summer, it's essential to stay informed about keeping you and your family safe during high temperatures. Below, you'll find lists of cooling centers and tips on preventing heat-related illnesses—valuable resources to help you stay cool and healthy.

I recently had the pleasure of joining the Latino Coalition for a Healthy California for the debut episode of their new podcast, ¡A Tu Salud!, which focuses on Latine and Indigenous health policy. We had an inspiring conversation about Manifesting Sueños (dreams) and the impact of Latina leadership. Be sure to give it a listen!

Lastly, did you know you can submit a customer service request online to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) when you see an issue on the road? This tool lets you request help with non-emergency issues like potholes, trash, debris, graffiti, and more. Caltrans handles these requests Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM. Please remember that highway emergencies should be reported immediately to 911 or the California Highway Patrol.

As always, if you need any other information or assistance, please contact my office at (562) 256-7921 or send us a message, here.

Sincerely,

Lena Gonzalez
33rd State Senate District
