Women’s History Month, Student Aid, Survey

Dear Neighbor,

Happy Women’s History Month! Thousands gathered in Los Angeles for International Women’s Day to champion women’s rights and rally for the work still ahead. Let’s continue to uplift and recognize the contributions of women this month and every day!

In Senate District 33, we’re keeping the momentum going by highlighting incredible women in our communities. We honored our Woman of the Year, Tina Kennedy—a dedicated leader in education for 40 years in the City of Avalon. We also celebrated Latina History Day, recognizing the resilience, leadership, and lasting impact of Latinas, including a special moment with civil rights icon and labor leader Dolores Huerta!

At the Capitol, I recently spoke on the Senate floor to reaffirm California’s support for Ukraine. I believe it is crucial that we stand firmly for democracy and peace and call out misinformation when the truth is being distorted.

Looking ahead, I’d like to highlight some important financial aid information for students preparing for college:

  • State Aid Deadline Extended: The priority deadline for state financial aid has been extended to April 2, 2025! That means you have more time to complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA).
  • Resources for Mixed-Status Students: If you’re a student from a mixed-status family or undocumented, know that you have choices in applying for financial aid. Make sure to review the resources available to you through the California Student Aid Commission.

As discussions continue about the federal budget and potential Medicaid cuts I want to hear from you. Are you concerned about these potential healthcare cuts? How do you think this could impact you and your family? What issue is top of mind for you? Please take a few minutes to answer our survey and share your thoughts. Your voice is essential in our fight to protect healthcare coverage and essential services for Californians.

Lastly, for those impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires, please know that important deadlines are approaching this month. Be sure to review the available resources and submit your applications.

As always, if you need any other information or assistance, don't hesitate to get in touch with my office at (562) 256-7921 or send us a message here

Sincerely,

Lena Gonzalez
