In Long Beach, Senator Gonzalez Presents $1.2 Million in Funds to Revitalize the Wrigley Greenbelt
Long Beach, Calif. – On October 22, 2022 Senator Lena A. Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) presented $1.2 million in funds for the revitalization of the Wrigley Greenbelt. The funds will help renovate greenspace to improve air quality and better serve local residents as a place for recreation, exercise and more.
“My district suffers from some of the worst air quality in the entire country, and it is a top priority for me to provide and enhance greenspace to combat air pollution and the increased health risks our families are exposed to,” said Senator Lena Gonzalez (D-Long Beach). “The Wrigley Greenbelt will have so many benefits for surrounding neighborhoods. It will form a green buffer along the I-710 corridor to improve air quality and it will encourage people to exercise outdoors, interact socially and overall promote physical and mental health in the community. I was pleased to collaborate with Councilmember Roberto Uranga, the City of Long Beach, and constituents to advocate and secure funds for this important environmental project.”
"As the City Councilmember representing the Seventh District, and as a member of the California Coastal Commission, I know how important it is to provide accessible greenspace. The Wrigley Greenbelt will improve air quality, provide recreational opportunities, and expand habitat for native plants. For these reasons, its revitalization is an important priority for me, and I have worked hard to find funding sources through our County Partners and the Rivers and Mountains Conservancy. I would like to thank Senator Lena Gonzalez for advocating for the Wrigley Community at the State level and for securing $1.2 million in funding to complete the Wrigley Greenbelt,” said Councilmember Roberto Uranga, Long Beach Seventh District.
