Senator Lena Gonzalez Issues Statement on State of the State Address

Sacramento, Calif. – On March 8, 2022, Senator Lena A. Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) issued the below statement following Governor Newsom’s State of the State address:

“Tonight, I was pleased to hear the State of the State address open with an acknowledgement of International Women’s History Day and the great contributions and stories of great women in leadership, remarks embracing the great culture and diversity of our state, and a moment of silence dedicated to those we’ve lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Governor Newsom highlighted key issues that matter greatly to Californians: advancing long-term climate policy, creating jobs and economic growth, realizing healthcare for all, our continued response to COVID-19, addressing homelessness, access to mental health services, enhancing public safety, and supporting our education system.

“I applaud Governor Newsom and his administration on setting forth ambitious goals for the year ahead and for reminding us of the diverse, rich culture that makes California so unique and a continued beacon of democracy and hope around the world. I am looking forward to continuing our work together to build stronger climate solutions and achieve a healthier and brighter future for all Californians.”
