Bills Signed Into Law, Senate District 33 Holiday Open House
The holidays are here, and before we turn the page on 2023, my team and I would like to extend our personal thanks to you—for showing up, to help us make a positive difference in our community. Eight bills I authored this year were signed into law by the Governor! Much of this success is due to the input received from local residents like yourself. Thank you for actively participating in the legislative process through your calls, emails, and letters to help shape policies for both the District and the state.
Soon, I will be introducing new bills for 2024. With this in mind, I’d like to invite you to join Team Gonzalez for our upcoming Senate District 33 Holiday Open House. Join us to spread holiday cheer and to learn more about my legislative priorities, the work we’ve done so far, and what’s ahead!
In the District, I visited Long Beach’s MacArthur Park to unveil $2 million in funds for homelessness and reentry services, to help out those who need it most. I also gave a State of the District Address in partnership with the Bell Chamber of Commerce, presented $2 Million in funds for completing the West Santa Ana Branch Bikeway Project Trail in Paramount, and we had the final day of our Youth Environmental Champions Program (YEC) which was jam-packed with environmental tours and activities for our youth participants.
In our resource corner, find some reminders to stay on top of important deadlines you need to know. First off, mark your calendar for the 2024 Covered California Open Enrollment period, so you don't miss getting enrolled in a health insurance plan. And, don't forget about the new travel rule: By May 7, 2025, you'll need a REAL ID to take domestic flights. Finally, remember to keep your COVID-19 and flu shots up to date.
Missed out on YEC? Consider joining the California Climate Action Corps, where like-minded go-getters ages 18+ team up with local organizations and agencies to combat climate change and help communities thrive. It's your chance to shine and save the planet, check it out today.
Lastly, as events continue to unfold in Israel and Gaza, I understand it can be a stressful time for families. I invite you to please take a look at some resources we have included in this newsletter that could be useful in helping friends and loved ones affected by the events, or in explaining to young individuals who may be worried about the news they are seeing.
