Big Win to Protect Neighborhoods from Oil Drilling Pollution!
Implementation can now begin for Senate Bill 1137, which I authored in 2022 to require 3,200-foot setbacks protecting neighborhoods from oil drilling pollution, following the withdrawal of the oil industry's referendum aiming to overturn the law.

Protecting Fenceline Communities from Toxic Refinery Pollution
The Assembly passed key environmental legislation I authored to establish statewide standardized air monitoring and to enhance transparency about pollution emissions at refineries. Next, the bill is headed to the Senate for a concurrence vote, then to the Governor’s desk for approval.

Governor Newsom signed PAGA reform into law, making improvements to the system for both workers and businesses following an agreement reached between labor and business groups. This legislation will strengthen worker protections, encourage employer compliance, streamline litigation processes, and avert a contentious ballot measure.
