Filipino American History Month, Latino Caucus Chair, Bills Signed

Dear Neighbor,

Every October, we celebrate Filipino American History Month, recognizing the profound contributions of Filipino Americans to our state and nation. Established in 1992 and officially recognized by Congress in 2009, this month highlights the vital role Filipinos play in shaping the U.S. cultural, economic, and social landscape. We honor trailblazers like Larry Itliong, a labor leader who fought for farmworkers' rights and helped shape the labor movement. From arts and entrepreneurship to political leadership, the Filipino community continues to enrich California's diversity and identity.

Recently, we witnessed history as President Claudia Sheinbaum was sworn in as Mexico’s first female president. On that same day, I was deeply honored to be elected as the next Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus! As Chair, I’m committed to advancing policies that support our communities on critical issues like health equity, climate action, workers’ rights, and economic opportunity. I’m excited to collaborate with our new Vice Chairs and my colleagues to drive meaningful change for all Californians. You can read the full press release on this exciting news below.

At the Capitol, the Senate is convening for an Extraordinary Session to consider legislation regarding California’s fuel supply, in an effort to help prevent price spiking that impacts consumers. You can watch the public hearings and floor session on the Senate’s website.

In addition, the legislative deadline for the Governor to sign bills into law was September 30, and I have an update for you on all my bills that made it to the finish line.

Lastly, I have some important resources and reminders to share with you. As COVID-19 cases rise, free at-home test kits are available once again. You can order four free kits, delivered directly to your door, to help keep you and your loved ones safe as the weather cools down. Additionally, with national elections just weeks away, it's essential to confirm that you're registered to vote. The deadline is October 21, and you can register online, by mail, or in person.

As always, if you need any other information or assistance, please contact my office at (562) 256-7921 or send us a message here
