Good Governance Bill Signed, LA28 Olympics, Get Vote Ready

Dear Neighbor,

Over the past few weeks, my team and I have been out in the community across Senate District 33 connecting with residents, small businesses, and local leaders to share legislative updates and discuss how state policies are shaping our neighborhoods. It’s been inspiring to see the hard work and innovation happening at home.

Governor Newsom Signs Senate Bill 827

I’m proud to share that Governor Newsom has signed my Senate Bill 827, into law! This new law expands ethics training requirements and institutes new mandatory fiscal training for local officials with budgeting, contracting and procurement duties in California. It is part of my Good Governance package which includes Senate Bill 521 (signed on July 30 earlier this year), to deter corruption in local government and prohibit individuals who have violated public trust from holding those same roles in the future. Together, these bills strengthen accountability to ensure California leads with integrity.

I was thrilled to join my fellow Senate colleagues on a tour of LA28’s Downtown LA headquarters to learn more about their efforts to advance equity and inclusion across every aspect of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It was inspiring to see how these programs are creating opportunities for communities across Los Angeles and I am thrilled that our constituents and local small businesses will be able to take part in the Games through partnerships and community events that celebrate Los Angeles’ diversity and culture.

Senator Lena Gonzalez joins a community coffee meeting with the Harbor Association of Industry and Commerce to share legislative updates and discuss community priorities.

California’s economy thrives when trade, clean energy, and a strong workforce move forward together. I was pleased to speak with the Harbor Association of Industry and Commerce about workforce development, environmental policy, and updates on state laws enacted this year such as Cap and Invest that will help California remain at the economic forefront.

I was deeply honored to be recognized by LA Waterkeeper alongside Senator Ben Allen and many distinguished environmental leaders who helped make Senate Bill 867, California’s $10 billion Climate Bond a reality. I was proud to lead co-author such a significant piece of legislation, and I am grateful to stand with dedicated advocates committed to protecting our coastlines, ensuring access to clean water, and preserving the future of our planet.
