Happy New Year! New Laws, BHM Nominations, Homeless Count
Dear Neighbor,
I hope your holiday season has been filled with joy, surrounded by friends and loved ones, and that you’re starting the year energized and ready to continue our collective work to strengthen our community.
The New Year brings a sense of renewal and opportunity—a perfect time to reflect on our accomplishments and focus on the possibilities ahead. In this issue, we’ll look back at key moments from 2024 and share important highlights of what’s to come.
Starting January 1, new laws took effect to tackle retail theft, prevent gas price spikes, promote health equity and more. We’ve summed up all the key details for you in one handy link below!
At the Capitol, the deadline to introduce new legislation is February 21st this year. My team and I are hard at work crafting my next legislative package, which already includes two bills aimed at supporting and protecting immigrant families.
In the District, we have exciting events on the horizon, including our annual Black History Month celebration. Stay tuned for details about this fantastic community event. In the meantime, we encourage you to nominate outstanding community leaders who deserve recognition for their contributions. Submit your nominations today for our annual Black History Month spotlights.
Additionally, it’s time for the annual homeless count events across the district. These counts are a critical tool for directing resources to those who need them most. We invite you to volunteer and join us in supporting local organizations, friends, and neighbors. Check out the details and get involved!
