My Latest Podcast Talks, Good Governance Bill Win, Back 2 School

Dear Neighbor,

As summer comes to a close and students head back to school, our work in the District continues. From advancing good governance legislation to speaking out on issues of justice, immigration, and community resilience, I remain focused on our work to build a stronger, more equitable California for all.

My Good Governance Bill, SB 521 Was Signed into Law

On July 30, 2025, Governor Newsom signed my Senate Bill 521 into law. This bill is a part of my Good Governance package, which aims to strengthen the public’s trust in local government and prevent corruption. SB 521 prohibits city managers and city attorneys convicted of corruption-related felonies from holding those positions again, and expands existing law, to bar individuals convicted of a conflict of interest felony from public employment for five years. My Good Governance legislative package also includes SB 827, which would enhance ethics, fiscal, and financial training requirements for local officials to ensure they have the tools and knowledge to responsibly manage public funds.

My Latest Podcast Talks: Immigration, Justice & Resilience

Senator Lena Gonzalez speaks on the David Pakman Show

I joined The David Pakman Show and Tamarindo to talk about the recent immigration raids, how they’re impacting our communities, and educational know your rights information. We also discussed our state legislative response, including bills the California Latino Legislative Caucus is pushing to fast-track on key immigration enforcement issues. My message was clear – we’re working hard to be the frontline of resistance in California against the egregious actions of the federal administration. Know Your Rights Webinar

I proudly partnered with the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) to host a Know Your Rights Webinar for my constituents. This webinar was full of information about your legal rights, including how to respond if approached by ICE and what protections exist in the workplace, both as an employee and as an employer. If you missed the event, and would like Know Your Rights educational information and resources, please reach out to my office by calling (562) 256-7921 with your request. You can also visit our Immigration Resources page here.

I joined the ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the MacArthur Park Rehabilitation Project. The rehabilitation of MacArthur Park is such a meaningful milestone for Central Long Beach. I’m proud to have helped secure funding for this major equity investment, bringing new amenities, better access, and more open space for residents of all ages and abilities to enjoy. It is truly exciting to see this project come to life to serve our community for years to come.
