It’s Pride Month, and we are celebrating all the wonderful accomplishments, and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community in Senate District 33!
Last week was a suspenseful one, as I waited to learn which bills in my 2021 legislative packet passed Appropriations. I am happy to share that seven of my bills passed the committee and are advancing in the legislative process in addition to one other non-fiscal bill.
I also had the pleasure of speaking with local teachers and migrant families in Long Beach to provide legislative updates and discuss important matters such as school re-openings and proposed legislation to help our diverse immigrant communities in the state.
Last week I visited Maywood’s Riverfront Park and Central Long Beach’s MacArthur Park to celebrate the allocation of funds from the 2021-22 state budget that will help improve our parks, provide upward mobility and economic opportunities for individuals and more access to health services in our district.

As part of the state budget agreement recently signed into law, a landmark bill was also passed that is of great significance to our district and that will help bolster efforts to protect public health and the environment.
It’s official - SB 129, the legislation that reflects the majority of the 2021-22 state budget agreement has been signed by Governor Newsom.

Today marks the beginning of our new fiscal year and I am proud to say that we’ve prioritized major investments exclusively for local services and projects in our district in this year’s proposed budget. More relief and protections for tenants and landlords are also now available through an extension of the eviction moratorium. This week the state fully reopened, the California Legislature reached an early agreement on its version of the 2021-22 state budget, and Juneteenth and Independence Day are around the corner!
During the last three years as your State Senator and throughout my entire career, I have advocated for legislation and efforts to protect our environment, and in that work, I have seen the passion and dedication with which our communities are looking ahead, fighting for a livable planet and a healthier life for future generations—and yet, we have a long way to go.
