Amid political promises of mass deportation under the incoming Trump administration, Senate Majority Leader Lena Gonzalez introduced legislation Monday that will prevent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from entering school campuses.
California leaders are preparing for the incoming presidential administration by introducing another measure to keep immigration enforcement efforts away from schools.
Sen. Lena Gonzalez is introducing legislation today — to be sponsored by State Superintendent Tony Thurmond — that would try to prevent immigration officials from entering school campuses, according to a media release from Thurmond’s office.
As the first bill in her 2025 legislative package, SB12 would provide a permanent governmental framework focused on streamlining services, creating grant programs, and engaging stakeholders to enhance support for immigrant and refugee families in California.
