Dear Neighbor,
The 2024-25 legislative session ends on August 31, marking the final day for both the Senate and Assembly to pass bills. Before that, we have one more important deadline: suspense week. During this week, the Appropriations Committees review the fiscal impacts of any proposed state legislation costing $50,000 or more to the General Fund, or $150,000 or more to a special fund. By August 16, the last day for these committees to meet, we'll know which bills have been approved to move forward to a final floor vote.
We recently wrapped up the end of the legislative session, and I am thrilled to report that we had a very productive year in the Senate. We finished strong with some major victories for climate, reproductive rights, expanding healthcare, strengthening our middle class, investing in infrastructure and housing, and so much more. Stay tuned for more details on all the legislation in these areas in our upcoming newsletters!
Recently, Governor Gavin Newsom unveiled the details of his proposal to deliver $11 billion in relief to Californians facing record-high gas prices.
Do you or someone you know need financial assistance to pay for college?

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought many unknowns and hardships to California families. Many of you are still trying to learn how to grapple and manage the situation. Many of our families have to decide whether to put food on the table or pay rent. This is why I’ve created a Resource Guide for the South East Los Angeles (SELA) region to provide you with a list of local resources that includes information about how to find a cost free testing site near you, locations for food distribution, and where to find a Tenant Protection clinic in order to save your home and avoid eviction.
