SACRAMENTO – The Assembly Public Safety Committee today approved five criminal and juvenile justice reform bills to improve public safety, keep young people out of the juvenile justice system and end longstanding inequities in California’s juvenile and criminal justice systems.

Sponsored jointly by Los Angeles-area Sens. Ricardo Lara and Holly Mitchell, the measures are  their #EquityAndJustice package and will now move to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. No hearing date has yet been set.

SACRAMENTOThe Prime Time Primary Act, authored by Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) and sponsored by Secretary of State Alex Padilla, was passed by the State Assembly Committee on Elections and Redistricting today on a 4-1 vote. 

The Prime Time Primary Act, Senate Bill 568, seeks to shift the state's presidential primary from near last to one of the first in the nation.

Atkins (D-San Diego) introduced SB 562 to create a publicly-run healthcare system that will give every Californian quality healthcare.

SACRAMENTO, CA – Facing down President Trump’s proposal to waste billions of dollars on a divisive and unnecessary wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, the California Senate today approved Senate Bill 30.

Senate Bill 30 will prevent the state of California from entering or renewing a contract with a company that accepts a federal contract related to President Trump’s border wall.
