Welcome! I’m Senator Lena Gonzalez and I represent the 33rd District. The 33rd District represents nearly 1 million residents of Los Angeles County, including Long Beach, and the Southeast Los Angeles cities of Bell, Bell Gardens, Cudahy, Huntington Park, Lakewood, Lynwood, Maywood, Paramount, Signal Hill, South Gate, and part of Los Angeles.

I’m honored to represent the working people of the 33rd District who drive California’s economy, from the Port of Long Beach to the transportation corridor that links California to the rest of the country. Today, California state Sen. Scott Wiener is introducing a bill that will authorize HIV counselors to perform rapid syphilis tests (or any combination HIV/hep C/STI test) in addition to routine tests they are already permitted to do.

Furthermore, Senate Bill 932 will require testers and navigators to undergo HIV-specific counseling training that has been certified by the state's Office of AIDS.

LONG BEACH, Calif. — California State Senator Lena Gonzalez (D-Long Beach) has been elected to serve on the board of directors of Equality California Institute, the 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit associated with Equality California, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ civil rights organization. Senator Gonzalez, a longtime advocate for LGBTQ equality, has represented Long Beach and Southeast Los Angeles County in the California State Senate since 2019.

“I’m honored to be recognized by the UCC, which represents the largest Cambodian population in the U.S.,” Senator Gonzalez stated. “The UCC and the Cambodian community are an integral part of Long Beach’s international and diverse culture, and are champions for inclusion and representation in the city.”
